Thornton Brothers Relocates to New Facility
Feb 7, 2004 by Thornton Brothers |
Thornton Brothers Paper Co., a janitorial and packaging supply company, is settling in to its new quarters at 150 Olympic Place in Athens and plans an open house Feb. 26. Clay Gilbert, company president, said the 40,000-square-foot building offers Thornton Brothers twice the space it had in its previous location on Fulton Street at Thomas Street in downtown Athens.
“The whole warehouse operation has dramatically changed and it’s better wired technologically,” said Gilbert, who bought the company from his father-in-law Jimbo Thornton last year.
Thornton Brothers’ main customer base covers the fields of manufacturing, education, health care and food processing. The business employs 29 people.
The old building on Fulton Street was sold to the University of Georgia, which has demolished the building. UGA’s immediate plans for the property call for a parking area, but eventually the university intends to construct office and classroom buildings and restore a stream running under the property.
